Development Strategy

PPGL strategy across the brands is formulated to bring synergy and/or scale benefits to the Group. The key elements of the business model are:

Well Defined Market

The prime target market for the Group is ‘middle New Zealand’. The Group offers a wide range of products that are ‘value for money’ across all age groups.

Wide Product Choice

Each of the PPGL brands offers a wide range of products to the market it serves. Both Group businesses provide choice for its customers with regular refreshing of products.

Product Range

The Group’s product range is built on our fresh seasonal ranges whilst the group also sells a large number of products that maintain popularity fro. m year to year.
We are continually refining our core apparel range to offer style conscious and more fashionable womenswear under brand labels.
The Group’s buyers have a wealth of experience across all the products sold and regularly update this with overseas reconnaissance trips..
Our internal design team have developed the ‘Who’s Henri?’ label as a showcase for the latest contemporary women’s apparel, featuring eyecatching ranges such as ‘Summer Romance.’

Direct Sourcing

Postie+ is a well-established direct importer, with our buyers travelling regularly to Asia to source quality product.. Postie+ buyers were among the pioneers of this direct sourcing and are actively involved in product design as well as buying. Postie+ has a very good, longstanding relationship with suppliers, and these relationships are a key element to the success of Postie+. Sourcing benefits are also accessed by Baby City.

Efficient Logistics and Information Systems

The Group has taken several major steps towards increasing the efficiencies of the distribution system that services our national store networks. The implementation of a SAP retail management system in 2007 has placed the entire company onto the same operating system. This system enables us to monitor store sales and replenish/redistribute in-store inventories accordingly. SAP is also providing better tools for group-wide communication and data analysis which is assisting our planning for growth.
In 2008 PPGL also completed the major restructuring of distribution facilities with the relocation of initial allocation and replenishment services from the traditional base of Westport to a third party provider operating a distribution centre at Christchurch. This significant change is part of a group-wide programme aimed at boosting productivity and earnings.

Cost Effective Leases – Well Located Stores

Postie+ has a critical mass of viable stores in locations where leasing is cost effective. During 2007-08 space was increased at our Nelson, New Plymouth and Pukekohe Postie+ stores and new Postie+ stores were opened in Kaikoura, Whakatane and Upper Hutt. Baby City opened new stores at Pukekohe and Nelson. Both chains will benefit from increased space during 2008-09 arising from the group divestment of Arbuckles.

Benefits of Centralised Management

The Group has a high quality Christchurch based Head Office management team. Sourcing, transportation, domestic logistics/distribution, marketing, merchandising, accounting and personnel functions are all controlled from Head Office.
